Michael Mueller This album gurns and churns with the dense, atmospheric power of an angel wrestling the forces of hell.

Wolfe's voice is an ethereal swirl, but it can cut like a blade. Her guitar, meanwhile, is a reaper's scythe, and with it, she flails like a Balrog summoned deep and raging from the bowels of Middle Earth.

It's an album of dreams and nightmares, a sludge-gaze torrent of painful questions hurled into the void.

A brave, bold and empowering listen. Favorite track: Strain.

Anal Aids Visceral and beautiful, cutting deep and making sure you understand why. Like a soft whisper in a thunderstorm. Favorite track: Vex.
Ippocalyptica

Ippocalyptica How foolish I was to think that Chelsea Wolfe would never match Abyss, and that she would do it with such a statement as Hiss Spun! While not as overtly dark or metallic as Abyss, this is in many ways her most powerful yet most nuanced album to date. What is equally remarkable is that this is very accessible despite being another example of Wolfe’s signature musical reinvention, in which she once again blends multiple genres with frightening skill. Not a dud in the bunch, you need this album. Favorite track: The Culling.
